The participants in the justice system (excluding the victim) have a vested interest in keeping the status quo. Its about the money not addressing issues. Cheers.

oh, c'mon now... it's common knowledge that criminal lawyers are only interested in truth & beauty.

"There are too many people who are mentally ill and should be dealt with in the health system as opposed to the criminal justice system,” Mr. McRury said. “We need more sentencing options. One size does not fit all."

That has to be one of the biggest "crocks" I've heard in years. The health care system is barely functioning for physically ill people, mental patients have nowhere to go,and there are few programs to treat them.

And it was GOVERNMENTS that closed the Mental Health facilities in the 1980's and tossed the patients into the street, where most of them live today.

Our local hospital has a "psych ward" for eight patients,in an area with a population of about 300,000. Unless a person is violent, there's nowhere to put them.

These people have proposed a non-solution,they might as well tell the starving to eat cake. They've criticized the action of the government and offered no viable alternative.

It reminds me of a word-game I've been playing over the last week or so; we all know that a group of lions is called a "pride", a group of crows is called a "murder", and a group of owls is called a "parliament" (which is an insult to owls, as far as I can tell), but what do you call a group of lawyers? The one that seems to fit best is an "injustice".

i just found it interesting that the stories i linked to on the globe website... bacon bros. assassination, the murder of a father of 7 at a mini-golf... AND the lawyers association bitchin' about stephen harper being tough on crime... could all have been covered with one hand.

there are none so blind as those who choose not to see.
