If you thought Jack Layton...
Was the only slimeball low enough to play politics with the tragic deaths of our brave soldiers... you'd be wrong.
Bloc Québécois Leader Gilles Duceppe says he's ready to bring down Prime Minister Stephen Harper's government this fall if there's no firm commitment to withdraw Canadian troops from Afghanistan by February 2009.It seems "Ghoul Duceppe" is ready and willing, to piss on as many graves as is necessary, to advance his political career.
Mr. Duceppe is also asking for an emergency debate on Canada's military role in Afghanistan when Parliament resumes on Sept. 17.
And it makes me sick.

UPDATE: Two dead soldiers identified
Master Warrant Officer Mario Mercier, a member of 2nd Bataillon, Royal 22nd Regiment and Master Cpl. Christian Duchesne, of the 5th Field Ambulance, were both killed in Wednesday's incident -- which occurred at 6:19 a.m. local time. They will be remembered.

LAST WORD: Jack and Gilles admire their will...
Here's the guys that Taliban Jack and Ghoul Duceppe want to negotiate with...
-- KANDAHAR, AFGHANISTAN -- The operation that saw two Canadian soldiers and their interpreter killed in a mine strike Wednesday had its roots in a brazen attack last week on an Afghan district leader in front of his house. It's like the love affair all the old lefties had with Stalin.
It was the savage attack on Haji Kheerbin, the 48-year-old district chief of the volatile Zhari area about 30 kilometres west of Kandahar, that led to the mission.
Mr. Kheerbin was preparing for prayers with his three young children at his side here last Friday when a suicide bomber approached and blew himself up.
The youngsters, two sons aged 6 and 12 and a three-year-old daughter, died with their father in the blast.
See No Evil.

Its simply that, a game of politics.
The Liberals are certainly not in a position to allow the government to fall, and the NDP does not have the fiscal resources of current support to even come close to their current amount of seats in Ottawa.
The Bloc would also be playing a dangerous game calling an election fairly soon after the PQ was crushed on a Provincial level.
Harper should stand firm and call their bluff or if they are foolish to make this an "Afghanistan" election then the other three parties can battle over the 50% of Canadians that don't support the mission while we enjoy the 50% that do.

"zednik said... Harper should stand firm..."
agreed.
harper is known for standing on principle... i think duceppe just overplayed his hand.

Not even one day after two soldiers from Quebec are killed, and already this idiot is ready to pull the plug.
Where was his hasty concern when it was soldiers from other provinces being killed?
What an asshole.
I double dog dare Duceppe to bring down the government. The NDP and Libs must be shyting their clothes right now.
It is interesting to see how badly the Opposition wants to debate and talk about the mission, but only when it is to talk about bringing them home. But when Harper wants to talk about the possiblity of extending the mission with work still to be done, then idiots like Dion basically say no debate, they are coming on on the deadline, whether there is still work to be done or not.
Peter van Loan, Government House Leader & Minister of Democratic Reform, was on CKNW in Vancouver this morning for an extended interview. He pointed out the Steffi story - around the Cabinet table when the mission was approved, the six different Liberal positions under Dion since, that the Afghanistan mission vote last year was the first time Parliament was asked to decide a foreign policy matter (according to him, I seem to recall Mackenzie King taking World War II to a pro forma vote on 10/09/1939, although I could be wrong about that). But he left Layton and Duceppe alone.
Frankly, it's time to speak out against each of the Opposition Leaders for their double-speak, duplicity and cowardice in the face of a little adversity. None of us want to see even one more death in Afghanistan. The reality is they will happen. It's time to call the chickens to roost, and tell them explicitly that if they want a confidence motion on the subject of the mission they will be given one. Let them either precipitate the election they're not ready for - or swallow hard in public.
Either will do. We are not going to see Conservative numbers grow into majority territory without some "put up or shut up" manoeuvres like this, and "support for Canada's troops and the work they are doing" is as good a place to stick it to the Opposition as any.
Canada must not cave into Quebec's cowardly frogs and the savage international terrorists by cutting and running from their combat role in Afghanistan after February 09.
Canada must not surrender to the terrorists from the war on terrorism; we must not abandon or desert our valiant troops by dishonoring and discrediting them and our country.
If we capitulate to the terrorists in Afghanistan we will have to fight them in Canada in a few years. We must not give the terrorists a base from which to attack freedom loving countries around the world.
If Mr. Harper caves into the Marxist moronic opposition parties, the cowards in Quebec, and the far-left wing press by cowardly cutting and running in 09 he will be acting irresponsibly and will be deemed as a just another weak, pusillanimous leader who caved into terrorists. He will be embarrassing, and humiliating our brave soldiers and every Canadian citizen.
Canadian Prime Ministers refused to cave into Nazi terror and the cowardly frogs during the two World Wars; Harper must hang tough in 09!
Do what you know to be correct Prime Minister; fight until we defeat the terrorists.
"If we capitulate to the terrorists in Afghanistan we will have to fight them in Canada in a few years. We must not give the terrorists a base from which to attack freedom loving countries around the world."

"ss said... drinking the kool-aid again I see....."
we walk away and hand this country back to the people who export 80% of the world's heroin supply... you'll be drinking more than kool-aid.
oh yeah, one more little fact...
"Infant mortality in Afghanistan has fallen dramatically since the demise of the Taleban, according to a new study, with 40,000 fewer babies dying every year.
Improvements in women’s access to medical care since the Taleban were ousted from power five years ago was cited as the main reason for the death rate becoming significantly lower.
According to the preliminary results of a Johns Hopkins University study, the infant mortality rate has declined to about 135 per 1,000 live births in 2006, down from an estimated 165 per 1,000 in 2001."
some things are worth fighting for.

I agree with Bruce Stewart -- it's time to call the Opposition out.
Bloc Québécois Leader Gilles Duceppe is only on this for one reason. And that is because he feels that he can gain more support and votes for the Bloc and himself at this particular time. In my opinion, he is nothing more than an opportunistic politician trying to advance his own career at any expense. There was a time when I admired Gilles because he spoke his mind, his feelings, and his convictions. He was always up-front (like it or not) about what he stood for, but somewhere along the way he lost these values and in my opinion has become a pathetic Gold-Digger. A pity.
