Turbulence
Irish Police Commissioner Noel Conroy has agreed to meet Sikh community leaders to discuss the ban on turbans imposed on officers.
A spokesman for the force told the BBC that they were currently "examining" their policy on all religious symbols, including crucifixes and pioneer pins.
I know that Sikh police officers in Toronto are allowed to wear turbans. My question is, "Is there ever a point at which we should draw a line?"
For instance, should we allow female Muslim cops to wear the burqa?
I'm sure aspiring Palestinian police officers would love to wear their colourful native garb as well.
If you allow turbans, how do you say no?

Remember the one in London when the female officer refused to shake the male Chiefs hand?
I still wonder how she got through training without touching a man.

"Alistair said... Remember the one in London"
I remember it... all too well.

Hare Krishna's on the tactical squad ought to look interesting...
Where the "line" should have been drawn, is where the first Sikh activists in Canada lobbied for the right to wear turbans as part of their uniform. Prior to that, we had Sikh officers in both the military and RCMP, who cut their hair, shaved their beards, and got on quite well. Maybe they'll be punished in the afterlife for their sins, but here on Earth, they went with the prevailing standards, and do not appear to have suffered for it. Must we acquiesce to every pushy minority?
"Must we acquiesce to every pushy minority?".......but of course we must. That is the way of the enlightened leftie.
If,like me,you work in an enviroment where there is a Diversity and Human Rights office, you only have to look at who staffs it.Why bother hiring the right people for the job when you have quotas to fill?
