FROM THE COMMENTS:

I feel for Thomas Mulcair, I truly do... because, sadly, no matter what he does or doesn't do, he will never be half as popular with dipper disciples as this guy...

"Mr. Layton's 'POLE NUMBERS' (emphasis mine) are so good because Conservatives and the Liberal parties have underestimated the Canadian public as per usual."
Yeah, underestimating... that's the problem here.

While this is good news for Tom in the short run (and even better news for the Prime Minister, since it effectively shuts down any Liberal revival in Quebec), we shold also look at the long term implications.

The NDP has moved into a power vacuum in Quebec, but the old Toronto-Montreal business and political axis is gone; Ontario is throwing in with the West. The CPC can count on economic and demographic dominence from Western Canada to propell them to power for decades to come; where will the NDP get enough seats to displace the Conservatives and win a government mandate?

This is also bad for us in the long run; a lazy and complacent government is not going to bode well for how Canada is governed in the future.

this whole quebec vote was a "stick a thumb in harper's eye" thing. these folks voted in people who had never even been in their ridings before.

fwiw... the link refers to a while back... when jack got caught with his pants down, er... off actually.
