You mean like the coal plants...

...Dalton McGuinty keeps promising to shut down?

• NATURE - Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012 • One of the world’s top climate scientists has calculated that emissions from Alberta’s oil sands are unlikely to make a big difference to global warming and that the real threat to the planet comes from burning coal.

“The conventional and unconventional oil is not the problem with global warming,” Dr. Weaver said. “The problem is coal and unconventional natural gas.” The paper concludes that burning all the globe’s vast coal deposits would create a 15-degree increase in temperature.

Burning all the oil in the world would only raise temperatures by less than one degree, the paper concludes.

You know how it is, the media run to the opposition to get their opinion on every move the cons make? Strange, I haven't seen any reporter run to the opposition like Megan Leslie, Liz May,or Cullen others for their opinion on the new scientist research on Coal Plants being worst than the oil sands.

Interesting that when I read this stuff that tells me, to the decimal point, EXACTLY how much the temperature is going to change, that I don't just vomit on the spot. Amazing that. And I continue to read it.

a 15 degree increase. heh. this guy calls himself a scientist. what a bloody joke. they still think that by ignoring the geologic record they can keep pushing their lies.

I really don't think we as conservatives should be drawn into arguing the comparative benefits of the oilsqnds versus coal plants. Coal fired generation is no more a threat to our climate than is the oilsands, or wind power for that matter. We realize that it's a popular target for westerners who are understandably annoyed at the constant whining about western oil carbon damage etc. But let's not let the enviro whakos corner us into throwing each other under a bus. It's a divide and conquer strategy and it plays right into their hands. Rather let's agree that there is a place for both. Mcguinties off coal strategy has resulted in sky rocketing energy prices and will not have any effect on climate. And make no mistake, it is as much responsible for our current troubles as the recession or any of his other hare brained ideas. The real divide in Canada is not east/west but rather urban rural and believe me rural people in Ontario do not want windmills or expensive electricity. If you want to take shots at Mcguinty, take them at his green energy delusions rather than at failing to carry out another bad policy quickly enough.

"anon says... Coal fired generation is no more a threat to our climate than is the oilsands"

except when, like china, you have dozens of new coal plants under construction at any one time... which is beginning to affect air quality on the west coast of north america.

increasingly, of course, the sheeple think... i heard about the oil sands on the cbc... we must be doomed.

and now we have the client scientists pulling another 180.

be that as it may... i agree... the weather lady can't even reliably tell you what's happening next week... never mind next decade.

say, how many obama-funded solar/wind power companies have gone bankrupt in the last couple of months? how come peter mansbridge never scolds us about that?
