Surprise, surprise

Just watched CTV's Mike Duffy on their Ottawa affiliate CJOH... giving his take on the brouhaha that will, no doubt, come to be known as CADSCAM.

Citing his interview with Cadman, right around the time of the vote... Duffy says the ailing MP voted to prop up the Liberal government... to ensure that his family got the larger insurance payout he was entitled to as a sitting MP.

Duffy also said that Cadman didn't say word one to him, about the "alleged" insurance policy bribe.

Host Norman Fetterly's next question attempted to get the Globe's Brian Laghi to put Stephen Harper "in the frame"... but that wasn't working out either.

Both men said that they had no idea why Cadman's wife and daughter were claiming that he had been offered an insurance policy as a bribe... that it "didn't make sense."

Apparently not everybody at CTV is a mindless robot.

UPDATE: Damn you, Magna Carta!!!

"There is no evidence; there’s no paper trail."

RELATED: Jodi Cadman apparently has more to say

LAST WORD: The caring, compassionate left
"Last night the Liberal Party of Canada awarded me, in recognition of my contributions and services to the party over the past few decades, a lifetime membership in the Liberal Party of Canada."

"If I look back, both the party and the people who populate its structure have had an enormous impact on shaping my life and 'who I am today'".

Good for Duffy. This is the first thing in this case that makes some sense. Cadman, hero to many, may have voted the way he did simply to benefit his family. So much for his place in posterity!

i do understand why a dying cadman would choose to try ensure the best outcome for his wife and family.

i just don't understand what the wife and daughter are trying to accomplish here.

is is possible there were some "political shenanigans" going on to influence cadman's vote?

sure... look at, for instance, buh-linda defecting straight into a liberal cabinet position. it's called politics.

the insurance policy bribe for a dying man, however... doesn't make sense. and the timing on the whole deal is more than a little suspect.

there's more to this than we're getting in the media.

Seems the she said, he said scandal surrounding Chuck Cadman has become the red herring of the century. If the thought of some insurance underwriter giving a life insurance policy to a man with terminal cancer sounds ridiculous it probably is. And all the statements attributed in the book are third party hearsay statements that would never stand up in court, or anywhere else for that matter. Even the author in an interview couldn’t even corroborate the allegations other than to say that is what Mrs. Cadman told him and she wasn’t in the room either. No doubt the conservatives would offer to help Cadman with an election since his riding association was broke and unable to finance a campaign. All other political party’s including the Liberals bolster riding associations this way. And according to the author, nobody was in the room with Cadman and the representatives from the conservatives so any information flowing from that is mere speculation, or a fabrication. As to Mrs. Cadman running for the conservatives, good luck with that. Seems this whole scandal is designed to pump up book sales for the author and increase the dividend paid to the Cadman family for their unsubstantiated statements in the book. What I find most amusing is how the media ran with the story before getting all the facts. Now that down-right irresponsible journalism. Shameful.

Speaking of the MSM running with a story before getting the facts, I seem to recall something about an MP viewing soft core porn........on a laptop......in the HOC......where another MP with very good eyesight......knows what she saw......and another MP from another party backs it up, even though she never saw what the first MP thinks she saw......and the story was shown to be bogus on Mike Duffy Live even before the MSM plastered it all over the news......no MSM apology.......just business as usual.......fabricate and smear....get your news from the Toronto/Ottawa scandal a day folks.....yup real professionals in action.

I used to work for an insurance company. I used to wonder why some very old people would buy insurance policies for large amounts. You may want to look into the term "Paid up addition" or "Additional Deposit Option." Even if you are dying you can dump money into a policy. People with money do it because it is a way to avoid or minimize inheritance/estate taxes. It's not really used as insurance, more of a shelter, but officially it is insurance so there are no or reduced estate taxes. Possibly conservatives could have offered to purchase paid up additions for a new or preexisting policy.
