"Stranger in a Strange land" comes to mind when I read about these shoes and the power they have over people. You can be killed for a new pair of running shoes!

It's no longer spending to "keep up with the Joneses"; too many of us are spending to "one up the Joneses". I cannot understand this constant need for more, more, more and better, better, better. No wonder people need bigger houses. They need more room to store it all.

people trampled, crowds that had to be pepper sprayed... doors torn off hinges & shots fired... those must be some sneaks.

you put 'em on... you're suddenly transformed into mj? you can jump, you can dunk? that's some kinda magical thinking.

i guess i'm just some boring ol' relic, 'cos honestly... trampling people for a pair of shoes? i don't get it.

How long before the first story emerges that someone somewhere is bullied, mugged, stabbed or shot for a pair of these oh so special shoes.

To Mahmood, yesterday in London a ghetto rat was stabbed and killed over a pair of sneakers. Two gangs got into a tussle over who had the franchise on shoplifting sneakers from a particular retailer.

I have heard quite a few stories of people getting beat up, shot, stabbed or otherwise being robbed for their clothes or shoes.

This is no different...

"nonny shrieks... beat up, shot, stabbed or otherwise being robbed for their clothes or shoes"

where exactly do you live, nonny? where is this desperate outpost of under-dressed, barefoot killers?

source, please.
