Fly me to the moon

-- MONTREAL -- The new CBC/Radio-Canada president has asked the federal government to give the public broadcaster a $215-million boost and commit to a seven-year funding plan.

In his first public speech since being appointed CBC president in January, Hubert Lacroix asked the government to fork over $40 more per Canadian in annual funding -- the broadcaster currently receives $33 per Canadian.

Lacroix also asked for an exact dollar figure on how much the government will contribute to the CBC over the next seven years.

I concur it's time for the CBC to go bye bye, it serves no useful purpose anymore.

The Torsun is guilty of bad arithmetic, but then again, they're only the News media, why should we expect them to be accurate, or precise.

The CBC is NOT asking for $40 MORE per capita, according to the rest of the article they are asking for an increase in per capita funding from $33 TO $40. An increase of $40 would garner the Corrupt Broadcasting Corpse $73 per capita for a total of well over $2 billion in annual funding. (I'm sure they would like that, but they aren't asking for it.)

They use sloppy 'facts' too. It is obvious that they are basing their calculations on a population of 30 million. (1.215 billion divided by 30 million = 40.5, 1 billion divided by 30 million =33.3) A couple of seconds worth of web 'research' indicates that 32 million is far closer to the truth, plugging that number into the above equations yields $38 and $31.25. (Assuming the CBC is asking for a set amount of funding, then calculating the cost per capita. If the CBC is asking for an increase in funding per capita up to $40, then a pop of 32 million will fork over $1.28 billion, not $1.215 billion.)

In any case, the Torsun is using bad numbers, and using them badly. There's a word for this kind of behaviour in the MSM, typical.

/the above not to be construed as supportive of the CBC or its continued existence.

I read yesterday that the CBC will start televising "Wheel of Fortune" and "Jeopardy" in the Fall.

Gee, thanks CBC.

Well, that has to be worth at least a billion dollars a year!!!

Conservative majority folks, it's the only way we could ever even think about ridding Canadians of this gong show.

Maybe the new CBC Head Cheese needs some of that extra unearned loot to lure Avi Lewis and Tony Burman back from Al Jazeera?

a previous commenter on the burman move, observed that it raised the collective i.q. of both organisations.

I have a better idea, lets sell the CBC to Al Jazeera.

Remind me again why I haven't moved to Texas?

Yeah but lets make it official. Then they can start applying for Saudi money instead of raping my wallet for a channel we never watch. It's a win-win for all as far as I see.
