A glimmer of hope...
For the Canadian judicial system.
-- HAMILTON -- The Ontario government has been denied an appeal in its bid to block a potential class-action suit being filed in Caledonia. It's about time Premier McSlippery got called to account.
Justice David Crane dismissed the Ontario government's application to kill the lawsuit in December and has now ruled the province cannot appeal his decision for his moral cowardice.
The suit alleges the county, police and province broke laws by allowing the closure of Argyle Street, the closure of the Highway 6 bypass, interruption of hydro in Caledonia, and by failing to enforce court injunctions. Then again... if McGuinty loses... it's us, the Ontario taxpayer... who ends up payin' the freight.
Sigh... there's just no winnin' this thing, is there?

Collectively Ontarians are responsible for electing this government. We should collectively pay for damages caused by our representatives (even though we didn't vote for them).
And the other side of the coin is that the citizens of Caledonia have been facing taxation without representation; they pay their taxes to have basic services and to be protected. They have not received the services owed by their taxes.
I'd say, they have the right to sue the government for a refund of their taxes and for damages resulting from these events. That, or if we go to a historical perspective... they have every right to overthrow the Ontario government's presence in Caledonia.
I'd prefer the lawsuit. Much more embarrassing for McShifty.

Nice to see the Provincial government being held accountable for a change.
Too bad it is Liberal...
the Courts will just be ignored.
Looks like this is one time that Mcguinty is going to wish he was a bit more careful in which bridge he burned, and which issue he had used to demonize conservatives with.
He will soon realize that the native protesters he has pandered to will never be satisfied.
He will soon realize that the OPP rank and file tired of trying to enforce the law of the land with one hand tied around their balls have no sympathy when the Premier starts picking a fight with the people they have aduty to protect.
And as he is now finding out, he will get no leeway from the court when he refuses to honour the courts previous order to remove the protesters.
Dalton is quickly running out of friends, and whne that happens in the liberal fold the knives start to come out from those that covet the big chair.
There are a few things I'd pay money to the government to see.
One of those few things I'd pay to see is to have the government humiliated and told to do it's job.
Go Caledonia.
