After getting his knuckles rapped for, well... being his usual vapid, offensive self... Canadian Cynic has implemented what I'm sure he feels, is his latest devastating onslaught...

CC has spent the last 48 hours poring over my blog to come up with what he feels is an equivalent sin... to his telling Wanda Watkins, the mother of a young soldier killed in Afghanistan... "Fuck You and Your Grief."

I guess this one really must have stung, huh, CC. Not so much fun, when you're on the other end of the stick.

As for CC... he's sticking with spitting in the face of a grieving mother.

"If the yammering mouth-breathers over at the Blogging Tories think that they're eventually going to shame me into disavowing the Wanda Watkins incident, they might want to reconsider..."

Outing Miss Daisy... winding down

Well, we're getting into Sunday evening and not one of the bloggers at Scott Tribe's Proggie Picnic from last August... has come forward to either offer support, OR disavow ... their fellow traveller Canadian Cynic.

I realise this was a little unfair to Scott, who from all accounts is a decent, slighty nerdy guy... who had the singular misfortune to be the diarist of the get-together where CC was an invited guest.

Scott was obviously surprised to find the initial invitation to participate in the comments at his blog. His flat and non-responsive comments are no doubt reflections of his "deer caught in headlights" surprise and dismay.

I invite Scott and all the others at the event to share their feelings with me here in the comments, or by email.

Naively, I had actually hoped that at least a couple of them would have the courage to show up and disassociate themselves from Cynic's shameful treatment of Wanda Watkins, the mother of Lane Watkins, who was killed recently in Afghanistan.

That apparently, was not to be.

What really surprised me was that none of the "progressive" female bloggers dropped in to take issue with Cynic's misogynistic treatment of other women on his blog. You hear stories of rabid, liberal feminists... but they were nowhere to be found today.

Of course, what we got instead of rational discourse was mostly a vicious stew of name-calling... which largely skirted the issue at hand and covered absolutely no one with glory.

I invite you all to skip through the comments and note the ratio of credible premise to personal insult.

(note: it's just past 9pm and here's another 3 word comment... "lol! confused much?"... which illustrates that very point)

It's pretty illuminating.

Note that throughout it all, Canadian Cynic himself chose to keep a very low profile. His uber-trolling proxy and alter-ego Ti-Guy, with whom you are all likely familiar, made up for all that... making a full 20 percent of all 51 (at last count) comments on one of the posts. They were all, apart from 2 invitations to fellatio, name calling of a particularly childish nature.

Many of you may not be aware that Canadian Cynic has, over the last week, made a couple of frantic appeals to Stephen Taylor at Blogging Tories to clamp a lid on any discussion of his identity. That speaks loudly to Cynic's awareness that he has indeed crossed a line that could cost him dearly in his non-blogging life.

I've also talked with Stephen about the nature of this type of personal, as opposed to general interplay between bloggers. Stephen pointed out that BT had been established primarily as a forum to discuss conservative and like-minded ideology and that personal wars, if you will, detracted mightily from that end.

I think we've proven that today.

Note that I do, in principle, support Stephen's stated objective. My purpose here today was to counter a particularly distasteful screed by a particularly offensive individual... as well as to try determine if there was any sort of consensus regarding what constitutes "going over the line."

Anyway... I'll leave off here. It's been a wearying and somewhat disappointing day. Barring organised retaliation from Cynic and his rat-pack followers, I'll just walk away from what seems to be a failed experiment.

So Cynic, you can stow all the melodramatics about me stalking you. I do hope though, that every time you see a uniformed Canadian soldier, you remember Lane Watkins... and the disrespect you offered to his mother and his family and friends.

You owe them more than you can appreciate.

As some of you know, there's been a bit of "a disturbance in the force" in the Progressive Blogosphere... over the threatened outing of self-described snarkmaster Canadian Cynic.

Which is actually quite funny because there are, according to Scott Tribe anyway, plenty of people who have broken bread with CC.

Now that revelation got me to wondering how Scott and all his "progressive" pals felt about the infamous "Fuck you and your grief" message that the Cynic recently spat into the face of Wanda Watkins, the mother of one of the young Canadian soldiers killed in Afghanistan.

It seems that all of the people at the big she-bang last August (with the exception of Shoshana Berman... see explanatory link***) are still crankin' out the socialist line on their progblogs.

So, in the interest of diversity of opinion and reconciling all the hurt feelings this matter has precipitated... I thought I'd give them all a chance to defend their fellow-traveller Canadian Cynic.

Obama has nominated Cass Sunstein, who he knows from the University of Chicago, to be "regulatory czar."

And, what exactly would "Dear Leader" and his ol' college pal be "regulating"?

Chalk up another one

Spent casings littered the street outside a Subway restaurant just north of Jane St. and Eglinton Ave. W., where police said a man was a victim of a drive-by shooting on Denison Rd. E., around 8 p.m.

The man was shot six times in the lower body and several bullets hit a nearby house, Det. Gord McNeilly said at the scene.

Runs down a teenager with their car... and then speeds off into the night?

-- TORONTO -- More than five years after a hit-and-run driver left 16-year-old Matthew Bobbett dying in a ditch "like roadkill" at the side of a highway, OPP investigators have charged a Scarborough man based on DNA.

OPP investigators told the grief-stricken father that three cars were travelling south on Hwy. 48 towards the boys.

The second car pulled out into the northbound lanes to pass the first. At the same time the third vehicle -- a blue convertible Ford Mustang -- veered all the way over to the far shoulder to pass the other two vehicles, which by now were travelling beside each other.

Omar Sharef Hassan, 29, was arrested yesterday after turning himself in. He is charged with criminal negligence causing death and failure to stop at the scene of an accident. He was released on $100,000 bail.

Disgusting.

I was actually in "The Devil's Armpit" yesterday... retrieving Mrs. Neo... who had taken the train in the previous day, to do book sales and other assorted errands.

The highlight of my day was when a Chinese gentleman... apparently confused about the size of his shiny, new black Mercedes... banged into my parked vehicle from behind.

I have to confess, I lost it a little bit... not because of any damage to my vehicle (he hit the trailer ball)... but because of this guy's idiotic attempt to pretend that nothing had happened. I looked up right after the bump... to see Mr. X sitting behind the wheel of his vehicle... studiously examining his crotch.

Needless, to say... I got out of my car and took it to Mr. Oblivious.

Here's a "melting pot" tip, my friend... you run into someone with your car - the appropriate action - in Canada, anyway, is to, one... get out of your car and apologise, and two... see what damage you've inflicted to the other car/person.

After I started getting some attitude... I asked my new friend if he would prefer if I just called the cops.

Mr. O. belligerently replied that I should do just that... but strangely enough... as I returned to my vehicle, he suddenly decided he had to be somewhere else.

On a more positive note... at least I didn't get stabbed.

Toronto... geezus.

A 22-year-old woman is expected to survive after being shot during a wild melee at a Scarborough bar that sent six to hospital this morning.

Toronto Police said a fight erupted inside J and G Bar and. Eatery on Danforth Rd. east of Birchmount Rd. at 3 a.m.

Police said five men including the gunman were stabbed by one suspect, who is being sought by detectives.

I'm fresh off watching resident pinko-pundit David Akin on the CTV news... lauding Hillary Clinton's "loads of experience."

Now, just so we're all on the same page here... was all this alleged "experience" acquired... while she was supposed to be co-presidenting with philanderer in chief Slick Willie?

The Price of Freedom

It has been said many times before... freedom isn't free.

-- KANDAHAR, Afghanistan -- A Canadian soldier died when a bomb exploded under his armoured vehicle Wednesday, as the military struggles to regain control of a notorious district southwest of Kandahar city.

It's important to remember that the citizens of Afghanistan are paying the price of bloody jihad as well.

A roadside bomb killed five local Afghans and injured three others on the same road on Jan. 19, the commander said. "Our men and women are doing dangerous but vital work in a country that is one of the poorest in the world."

This brave Canadian was willing to place himself in the line of fire to uphold the rights of people like those above.

He will be remembered.

OTTAWA – Killed yesterday in Afghanistan was Sapper Étienne Gonthier, 21 year old, of 5th Combat Engineer Regiment based in Valcartier (Québec). He was part of a team of sappers conducting route clearance ahead of a convoy in the Panjwaiyi District.
