Welcome Back Khadr

Poor defenseless little Omar Khadr is back in the news...
CBS News has broadcast shocking new footage of a Canadian terrorism suspect allegedly building bomb timers and planting land mines while he was a 15-year-old militant hoping to take on American soldiers in Afghanistan.

Beyond the new footage, the 12-minute 60 Minutes piece contained few surprises for Canadians who have been following the case for years.

There are more remarks from fundamentalist Islamist Khadr family, whose televised statements will once again do little to build public support for the groups and politicians who are arguing that Canada should adopt a principled stance and lobby to repatriate Mr. Khadr from Guantanamo Bay.
And hey... there's Omar's baby brother, Humpty... you know, the one the Canadian taxpayers paid to put back together again.
Omar's younger brother Karim was also shown in the piece. The footage was shot in 2004, just weeks after he returned to Canada from Pakistan. He survived, but was paralyzed by the deadly battle that killed his father.

In that footage, a 14-year-old Karim Khadr talks about how he wanted to become a martyr so he could be doted on in the afterlife by dozens of fragrant-smelling virgins.

He adds that he expected that Omar would want to resume battles against Americans when he gets out of Guantanamo Bay. “When he's all right again he'll find them again … and take his revenge.”
Isn't that special.

I sure hope Steffi and the Fiberals can bring Omar back to Toronto real soon... it's the least we can do for him.

UPDATE: Khadr lawyer pitches hissy fit
-- TORONTO -- The lawyer of detained Canadian terror suspect Omar Khadr says it's outrageous that CBS News has broadcast a tape of his client allegedly building explosives.
Yeah... having video of his terrorist client building bombs is really gonna slash those billable hours.

It's just not fair.

If we send the rest of the family...

Can we get a group rate?
Canadian Omar Khadr faces the possibility of indefinite imprisonment at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, even if he is acquitted of murder and terrorism charges at his war crimes trial later this year...
**********

UPDATE: Omar Khadr... cannon fodder

Proving yet again, he's not the sharpest tool in the drawer, Khadr has dismissed his lawyers right before his big court date...
Khadr’s decision may also force a halt to legal proceedings launched on his behalf in U.S. civilian courts.

His American civilian lawyers had petitioned a federal court in Washington this week to stay all proceedings against Khadr, arguing he did not qualify as an “unlawful enemy combatant” under U.S. law.

“This dismissal is applicable to all military commissions, habeas corpus proceedings, other federal court proceedings and any other proceeding,” Vokey said in a separate email to Canwest News Service.
I guess Allah works in mysterious ways.

The only reason...

...this guy isn't rotting in a cell somewhere, is that he snitched out his terrorist buddies.
Mr. Khadr, who is a Canadian citizen, was captured in Afghanistan in 2001 and was held for months as an “enemy combatant” by U.S. forces at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He was released in 2003, but only after he agreed to spy for the United States.
Khadr has demonstrated his complete lack of loyalty to anything or anyone; betraying Canada AND his terrorist playmates. I wouldn't let this guy walk my dog, never mind give him a Canadian passport.
Abdurahman Khadr's parents had left Canada in the 1990s to raise him and his siblings in Taliban-controlled Afghanistan. For a time, the family even lived in the same compound as Osama bin Laden and his top lieutenants.
Apparently the whole family lives in a moral vacuum.
Omar Khadr, 19, remains in the U.S.-run Cuban jail, having spent the past four years there facing allegations that he had killed a U.S. soldier in Afghanistan. U.S. courts judged this summer that the legal regime at Guantanamo Bay is illegal, making it anyone's guess as to when Omar Khadr may actually face trial.

Sister Zaynab Khadr, 26, and brother Karim Khadr, 17, have lately appeared in a Brampton, Ont., court to lend emotional support to a group of Toronto terrorism suspects. The accused were arrested in June in connection with an alleged al-Qaeda-inspired truck-bomb conspiracy.
I support Peter McKay and the government on this one.

More details from Frontline.
Okay, the first time I went to training I was 11-and-a-half years old. … My brother was 12 and we went to Khalden. We took the first course, which is the assault rifles course. We stayed in the course for two months and then we went back to Pakistan.

And then since like, I could say since '92 until 2003 I've been to Khalden like five times. I took an assault rifle course, explosive-making course, snipers, pistols, and … a course that includes all of these.

Mission Accomplished

So Iggy got to talk to "the One"... and this is what he decides to go with?
-- OTTAWA -- Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff said Thursday he raised the case of Canadian Omar Khadr in his meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama at Ottawa International Airport.

Ignatieff told CBC News that Obama was "glad to know" 'Canadian parties' were concerned about Khadr, the only Westerner remaining in detention at the U.S. Naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
Canadian parties, huh? Who exactly is Michael Ignatieff speaking for here?

Hang on... did Iggy really say "parties"? Maybe not...
The president indicated he "was glad to know that 'the Canadian party' is concerned about Mr. Khadr," Ignatieff said.
Sure, the uh... Canadian party.

You know... the party that wants Omar Khadr back.

Mr. Dithers finally weighs in

I guess it took him a while... to make up his mind...
Mr. Martin didn't specify Sunday what exactly he knows now that he didn't know before, but his remarks are consistent with those made by other members of the former Liberal government, including Mr. Graham.

Anne McLellan, Irwin Cotler and current Liberal Leader Stéphane Dion all now say either that they were unaware of the extent of the abuse allegations involving Mr. Khadr or that it is time he was tried in a Canadian court.
Hmmmm, that's funny... that's not what the paper trail says.

-- TORONTO — The leader of one of Canada's largest Islamic groups says Prime Minister Stephen Harper is indifferent to Omar Khadr's plight because he's "brown-skinned" and a Muslim.

Canadian Islamic Congress president Mohamed Elmasry says Harper is "callously" unconcerned about Khadr. Khadr's lawyers and others want Ottawa to repatriate Khadr from Guantanamo Bay.

In an opinion piece released to the media, Elmasry says Harper has shown a "shocking indifference" to those calls.

LAST WORD: Sure, let's bring him back...

...and he can get a job at McDonalds...
-- OTTAWA -- Omar Khadr would likely never face conviction in Canada even if there was a way to charge him with an offence under Canadian law, legal experts who advocate his repatriation acknowledge.

University of British Columbia law professor Michael Byers, a noted international law expert and would-be federal NDP candidate, is one of many who want the Toronto-born Khadr released from the U.S. military prison in Cuba.

The real balancing act, he said, is the "challenge to rehabilitate him and to reintegrate him into Canadian society in a way that is respectful of both his rights and also the rights of Canadians to be protected against people who may constitute something of a danger."
No, my friend... the real challenge is to figure out why so many professors at Canadian universities have their heads so far up their collective socialist ass... they seem to have lost touch with reality.

Omar Khadr, the former "child soldier" whose war crimes convictions made him a political lightning rod for both Conservative and Liberal governments, is scheduled to be a keynote speaker at a Dalhousie University event next month.
Has Omar Khadr publicly... even once... denounced the actions of his dead terrorist father?

TRAVEL BACK IN TIME WITH ME:
"Liberal governments of Chretien and Martin had about 4 years to do whatever they thought fair for Khadr when in power.

Welcome Back Khadr

Chalk up one for the good guys... Omar Khadr is gonna get his day in court.
-- WASHINGTON -- A military appeals court sided with the Pentagon today, overruling a judge who threw out terrorism charges against a Canadian Guantanamo Bay detainee.

The U.S. Court of Military Commission Review ruled that a military court set up by the Bush administration was the proper venue for deciding whether Omar Khadr is an "unlawful enemy combatant" and trying him on terrorism charges.
That sound you just heard is the sighing and weeping of a million deluded leftbots.
The ruling reverses a military judge's June 4 ruling that the tribunal system created by Congress did not have authority to try detainees unless they were first determined to be unlawful enemy combatants.

UPDATE: In other Canuck terrorist related news
In a move that stunned defence lawyers for 14 men alleged to have participated in terrorist-related activities, the federal Crown announced this morning that it will file direct indictments against the accused.

All parties were in the midst of a preliminary hearing that was expected to last until the spring. A direct indictment would mean an end to the preliminary hearing and a stay of all the charges. The men would be re-charged and after bail hearings, they would proceed to a criminal trial.

Mission: Welcome Back, Khadr

Emperor Iggy's infamous "Coalition"... rises from the dead, to make plea for Canada's "first family of terror"...
-- OTTAWA -- The three political opposition leaders have taken their campaign to repatriate Omar Khadr directly to U.S. President Barack Obama, urging him to recognize the Canadian detainee as a child soldier and release him immediately from the U.S. prison camp at Guantanamo Bay.

"We call upon President Obama to acknowledge Omar Khadr's status as a child soldier... promptly release him from Guantanamo Bay and repatriate him to Canada,"
There's some yip-yap about forwarding evidence, so that Khadr can be tried in Canada... but that's simply a fiction the "Three Stooges" have concocted to reassure the fence-sitters.
Legal experts in Canada say it's unlikely Khadr would face prosecution in Canada, considering he was a child soldier at the time of his alleged crime. Rather, he would likely face rehabilitation and mandatory supervision, they say.
Funny though... it sure wasn't a priority when the Fiberals were in power.

**********

UPDATE: Nah... I think we'll take a pass
He was in the wrong place at the wrong time as a young man,” said Dennis Edney, Mr. Khadr's lead lawyer.

Feds knew about torture allegations

Nope... it's not that evil Stephen Harper... this was way before his time...
New documents released Wednesday reveal a fuller extent to which the federal government knew about the alleged mistreatment of teenaged Canadian citizen Omar Khadr in the U.S. military prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba – and give an alarming preview into wrenching DVD footage of the interview that is expected to be released publicly within days.

“KHADR said he was scared to say something. He then asked his interrogators ‘Promise you'll protect me from Americans,” a U.S. Air Force briefing note from February, 2003 reads.
Geez, it's right on the tip of my tongue... who was running the country back in 2003?

Mr. Harper's government has long insisted that it sought and received assurances from the U.S. that Mr. Khadr was being treated humanely, but the documents dating from 2003 and 2004 – when Mr. Khadr was 17 years old – indicate Canadian officials knew of his conditions and mistreatment.

“I think that what is being done to Omar Khadr right now rests squarely on the shoulders of Prime Minister Harper.”

DADDY DEAREST: Who was Ahmad Saeed Khadr?
Born on March 1, 1948, in Cairo, Egypt,Khadr was a very well connected Islamist extremist prior to his death during a firefight with Pakistani security forces in October 2003. Both Khadr and his residence on Khartoum Avenue, Scarborough, have been linked to extremists in Canada.

Khadr first became involved in terrorism when he used his position at two different charities to funnel money to Al Qaeda allegedly to finance terrorist operations.

Initially, while working with Human Concern International (HCI), Khadr used the money collected, including some $325,000 provided by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), allegedly to fund Al Qaeda operations, including the bombing of the Egyptian embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan in 1995, which was ordered by Ayman Al Zawahiri.

Khadr was arrested by Pakistan authorities for his role in the bombing, but was later released without charges on the request of then Prime-Minister Jean Chrétien.

Now, I'm not sure I follow that logic... or how he got from Omar Khadr to raping old ladies... but, hey... I'm all about condemning horrendous criminal acts, so here it is...
A 61-year-old woman was the victim of a violent sexual assault in an east-end cemetery Monday, Toronto Police said.

The victim was visiting a grave in the Pine Hills Cemetery near Birchmount Rd. and St. Clair Ave. around 5 p.m. Monday when she was dragged from a pathway and sexually attacked, police said.

She was discovered around five hours later by someone walking through the cemetery, police said.

The attacker is described as a white man, between 30 and 40 years old, about five-foot-six with a skinny build. He was clean shaven and his shoulder length hair was tied back in a ponytail.

The victim is in hospital being treated for serious head injuries.

Khadr, who admitted having a close relationship with his father before he was killed by Pakistani forces in 2003, denied any knowledge of his father's ideologies.

When testifying about a three-month camp he attended when he was about 13 or 14, Khadr explained that learning about basic weapons training, rocket launchers, grenade launchers and how to detonate explosives, were part of the "Muslim culture" and part of growing up in Afghanistan.

"When you go fishing, you fish with a bomb, you don't fish with a fishing rod."
Yeah, sure Abbie... and they clear snowed-in roads with napalm, right?

And, of course, this isn't just about Abdullah... or infamous sibling Omar, currently on ice down at Gitmo...
Court also heard that when Khadr's sister returned to Canada, a hard drive was seized by police, which was shown to have belonged to her father. On it was a 1,300-page handwritten manual that included instructions for making bombs, as well as letters with Osama bin Laden's signature stamp.

Khadr returned to Canada in December 2005 and met with RCMP officials in Toronto and again confessed to purchasing weapons for Al Qaeda. He is the brother of Omar Khadr who is charged with killing a U.S. soldier in Afghanistan and who is being held in the U.S. prison camp at Guantanamo Bay.
