Awh, did those businesses and building owners get an "absolute discharge", yes they did - they got absolutely nothing!!!
If he re-offends, nail his hide to the shed. BUT, if he never again commits such a stupid and selfish act, the sentence was correct. That is how the law should treat first offenders - instead of embittering them, set them free with the certain knowledge that they will hang themselves if they re-offend. That and open season on murderers, rapists and child molesters.

I agree,first time offenders need a little lee way ,but also need a little jail time to show them what to expect if they re-offend.I would suggest 90 days minimum,6 months maximum for first time offenders.
