How does Israel get into these sort of deals - 500 Hezb'allah thugs for 2 or 3 dead soldier's bodies or 1000 Hamas jihadists for one live soldier?

israel has been under siege since it's very inception. it is the only democracy in that part of the world. they're surrounded by 15th century theocracies.
i can't imagine what it's like to live like that.

Maybe the Canadian government should look into it. If we could trade some of our Palestinians for Israelis, maybe it's worth a try.
