Coming soon to a neighbourhood near you

Canada's aging & increasingly infirm population will only further stress a precariously situated system that presently consumes over half of all our tax dollars... and, is indeed... perched on the knife edge of total implosion...
Writing for the majority, Chief Justice McLachlin said that addicts are extremely sick individuals whose urgent need frequently leads to them to inject drugs with dirty needles after dissolving narcotics in dirty puddle water.

She noted that the geographically small area is home to 4,600 intravenous drug users whose addiction means that their lives are constantly on the line.
Unlike, say... our courageous soldiers... these folks have chosen to "put their lives constantly on the line" in reckless, uncaring, single-minded pursuit of self-gratification.

And it's easy to see what's at the bottom of this slippery slope...
Ms. Bird, 54, is president of the Western Aboriginal Harm Reduction Society, a group dedicated to improving the quality of life for native people who use illicit drugs. She said she smokes crack every day and would use an inhalation room if one were to open.
Yeah... I bet she would. These folks spent a little less time glued to their glass pipes, their kids might not be screwed from day 1...
"42 per cent of aboriginal children under 14 live with either a lone parent, grandparent or relative. Only 58 per cent live with two parents, compared to 82 per cent in the non-native population."
Hey, how about forming a group of people who improve the quality of life... for aboriginal children? Forgive me... I guess that'd cut into somebody's daily inhalation schedule.

So, my question is... given the desperate & steadily worsening state of our healthcare system... how about we do a little triage and dedicate scant, disappearing resources... towards people who actually give a shit whether they live or die?

We take care of that... all the money that's left over can go to shiny new needles, crackpipes and medically supervised spikin', snortin' & smokin'.

Anybody?

-- LONDON, Ont. -- Police have charged a 26-year-old man over an apparent racial incident in which a banana was thrown on the ice while a black player was taking part in a shootout during an NHL pre-season game.

The banana was thrown from the stands as Philadelphia's Wayne Simmonds — who is black — was skating towards Detroit goalie Jordan Pearce in the shootout before 7,427 at the 9,090-seat John Labatt Centre.
Okay... accepting the premise that this particular stone dumbass brought this specific piece of fruit to the arena on the off chance that he'd get to taunt this one individual... how exactly, is it... that Mr Simmonds isn't being held to the same standard of conduct?

-- WASHINGTON (WLS) -- The Energy Department on Wednesday approved two loan guarantees worth more than $1 billion for solar energy projects in Nevada and Arizona, two days before the expiration date of a program that has become a rallying cry for Republican critics of the Obama administration's green energy program.

Energy Secretary Steven Chu said the department has completed a $737 million loan guarantee to Tonopah Solar Energy for a 110 megawatt solar tower on federal land near Tonopah, Nev., and a $337 million guarantee for Mesquite Solar 1 to develop a 150 megawatt solar plant near Phoenix.

The loans were approved under the same program that paid for a $528 million loan to Solyndra Inc., a California solar panel maker that went bankrupt after receiving the money and laid off 1,100 workers. Solyndra is under investigation by the FBI and is the focal point of House hearings on the program

"We expect to continue to incur significant operating and net losses and negative cash flow from operations for the foreseeable future."
And it gets even better. Even after the Whitehouse knew Solyndra was going down the shitter... all they cared about was how it was going to affect the re-election campaign.
Newly released emails show the White House was worried about the likely effect of a default by Solyndra on Obama's re-election campaign."The optics of a Solyndra default will be bad," an OMB official wrote in a Jan. 31 email to a colleague. The first headline here is a classic. Despite using the word "flirted"... it still manages to confer a certain gravitas and, more importantly... states one thing while implying exactly the opposite.
halls of macadamia/The obvious takeaway here is that this man is a loose cannon, a candidate for blackmail... and thus a danger to his country.

How exactly do you respond to this kind of thing?
"Bob Dechert says voters will dismiss a report that he wrote flirtatious emails as a non-issue, because there was 'no wrongdoing' in the incident, for which the parliamentary secretary was not arrested or charged."
Yeah, yeah, I know how weak that sounds... and in fact, Bob Dechert actually said nothing of the sort... but, then again, maybe he should have.

'Cos... you've got a glib excuse and a sympathetic media following... forget all about those triad pimps... you can get almost any headline you desire...
halls of macadamia/
"Jack Layton says voters will dismiss a report that he was once found in a massage parlour by police in 1996 as a non-issue, because there was 'no wrongdoing' in the incident, for which the NDP leader was not arrested or charged."
I dunno... I suppose we should all be used to men in positions of power tripping all over their erections... and flirty emails and sketchy late-night shiatsu are probably the tip of the iceberg.

But don't you find it interesting how these two less-than-seemly tales are portrayed as near-reciprocals of each other in the media?

I'm almost ready to go pitch CBC on a new reality show... "SURVIVOR: Byward Market".

'Allo, 'allo... I'm not sure I follow here

The lamestream media herd sneaks in and spikes the kool-aid /// then starts bitchin' when they wake up with a hangover? ///

Thank goodness for the sagacity of online commenters...oh, my achin' headAnd call me cynical... but this postmortem, er... postmortem... smacks, not of journalistic integrity, but one last attempt to squeeze blood out of this one-time fairy tale...
Last week, La Presse columnist Patrick Lagacé didn’t mince words: “Mr. Layton ran for the highest office knowing that the crab was gnawing at his bones. We should have been told. This would have changed the vote of thousands of people, that’s clear."

"And it’s someone who voted for the NDP who’s telling you this.”
Ah, Patrick... yet another less-than-timely intervention by the "professional journalist" community.

UPDATE: Why would anyone be surprised?
-- MONTREAL -- "Protesters (the Revolutionary Communist Party of Canada) denouncing so-called American imperialism burned a United States flag in front of the U.S. consulate in Montreal Sunday afternoon on the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks."
Just another piece of self-involved socialist nonsense... from the people who mindlessly embraced the Party of Jack.

Apparently, the Liberal campaign co-chair...

...thinks Ontarians are a bunch of morons...
“I never thought I’d have to explain something so obvious and something with so much common sense." --
Yes, of course Greg... if only the average man on the street was as smart as, oh, I dunno... a Fiberal party pooh-bah.

Not that I can't see the reasoning here.

A while ago, I heard that 52% of Torontonians self-identify as being members of a visible minority. Obviously, Greg & company feel that those votes are for sale... and have acted accordingly.

I don't think that's gonna work. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and hazard a guess that perhaps not all Ontarians (whatever their ethnic origin) are on board with the Liberals politically-correct system of quotas and taxpayer-subsidised "affirmative action" plans.
After six days of defending the $10,000-credit program without providing details beyond the vague promise in its campaign literature the Liberals had campaign co-chair Greg Sorbara outline exactly who would qualify for the grants the $12-million a year program.
I think Ontarians... and indeed, most Canadians still believe in a meritocracy... where people earn their rewards.

I think most people are smart enough to realise that all of this valuta ultimately comes out of their own pockets.

LAST WORD: The future is already here

If they put a fraction of the...

But on Monday, when the crowds are gone, the families of the 40 passengers and crew members who were killed when the plane was hijacked by terrorists on Sept. 11, 2001, will hold a private service to bury the unidentified remains of all of those who were on board.
Instead, the Islamic fundamentalists have forever etched themselves into the world's consciousness... as unthinking, pitiless murderers...a decade later
Those remains have been kept in an above-ground crypt for the last 10 years by the Somerset County coroner, Wallace Miller, awaiting a final resting place. They will be laid to rest in three steel coffins at the patch of earth — sodden now from endless rains — where the plane rammed into the ground.

LAST WORD: A little unclear on the concept...

...democracy, that is...
-- CAIRO -- A demonstration that brought tens of thousands to this city’s central Tahrir Square turned violent on Friday, when thousands of people — led by a heavy contingent of soccer fans — tore down a protective wall around the Israeli Embassy, while others defaced the headquarters of the Egyptian Interior Ministry.
If these are the new & improved citizens of a democratic Egypt... I sure wouldn't want to run into their not-so-nice predecessors.

Now honey, who ya gonna believe... Dalton and company... or your own damn lyin' eyes?once again, it begins
-- London, ONT -- “We came here to do business,” Mr. Lee told reporters, “so we don’t want to be involved in political affairs and the election campaign.”
Shaaa-zaaammmm...
But there he was in a chemistry lab at the University of Western Ontario, standing alongside the politician seeking a third straight term on Oct. 6.
I mean... what could possibly go wrong?
once again, it beginsNow, here's a question you... as an Ontario taxpayer... might wanna ask yourself.

If solar power is such a winner, such a lead-pipe cinch... why does Dalton have to, financially speaking, reach over and grab his, er... your ankles for Samsung?

And even with all those hundreds of millions of taxpayer greenbacks... how well exactly, did that work out for... prominent Obama fundraiser... George Kaiser?
