"A short distance from the American compound, two Americans were sleeping. They were in Libya as independent contractors working an assignment totally unrelated to our embassy. They also happened to be former Navy SEALs. When they heard the noise coming from the attack on our embassy, as you would expect from highly trained warriors, they ran to the fight. Apparently, they had no weapons, but seeing the Libyan guards dropping their guns in their haste in fleeing the scene, Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty snatched up several of these discarded weapons and prepared to defend the American compound."

Alright... statistically anomalous "weather porn" fatality goes front page, above the fold...
A woman in her 50s has died after flying debris hit her on the head near Keele Street and St. Clair Avenue, according to Toronto EMS.
Three homicides in three days, including brutal beating death... not so much...
The unidentified woman’s body was so badly injured that the cause of death must be established by an autopsy, the source said.

The unnamed woman’s death follows two weekend gun homicides and raises the city’s homicide total for the year to 46.
Wake up and smell the manipulation, folks.

UPDATE: A weather story...

...or just plain negligence?
A warehouse worker near where a woman in her 50s was killed after being struck by a Staples sign in Monday night’s storm said he complained to the retailer about their sign.

A red Staples sign, measuring around 4.5 metres by 1.5 metres, lay on the ground on Tuesday, cordoned off with yellow police tape, hours after it allegedly struck a woman on a west-end street.

“It was like that for months and months,” said the employee of Family Communications Warehouse, who did not wish to be identified for fear of retribution.

"I did not have sex..."

"...with that woman, er... terrorist group..."
(Reuters) - Officials at the White House and State Department were advised two hours after attackers assaulted the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, on September 11 that an Islamic militant group had claimed credit for the attack, official emails show.

The brief emails also show how U.S. diplomats described the attack, even as it was still under way, to Washington.
Wait a minute. The Obama administration had real time intelligence that U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens is under attack by a large group of organised terrorists... yet what do they do?
Administration spokesmen, including White House spokesman Jay Carney, citing an unclassified assessment prepared by the CIA, maintained for days that the attacks likely were a spontaneous protest against an anti-Muslim film.
You mean that amateurish 14 minute Youtube video, right Jay? But why the clumsy White House sleight of hand, you might ask?
Vice President Joe Biden claimed that the administration wasn't aware of requests for more security in Libya before the Sept. 11 attacks on the U.S. mission in Benghazi during Thursday night's debate, contradicting two State Department officials and the former head of diplomatic security in Libya.
Yup... this one's squarely on the Car-Salesman-in-Chief and his inept entourage...
"Look for the State Department to continue to stonewall this request, and resist release of the document until after the election. Its contents will be just too damaging. In effect, the country will be able to see Hillary Clinton's signature on the document that served as Ambassador Chris Stevens's death warrant."
The lies just come so easily.

The real question is... will Obama & Company get away with it? With the specific collusion of their many friends in the MSM and the apathy of the electorate in general, they just might.

You DO get the kind of government you deserve.

LOST AND FOUND... yet another tale of the incivil service...
I'm a fan of your blog, and I've contacted you once or twice before. I wanted to share my gun registry story with you, as I spent about an hour on the phone with them yesterday.

My license expired on August 1st. Six weeks before that I dutifully filled out the paperwork to renew it, got a passport-style photo, etc and mailed it off. Everything was done correctly. I don't have anything fancy either --no prohibited weapons. Just a bunch of hunting rifles and mil-surp .303s picked up after the war and passed down.

And I'm no criminal: at worst I have three speeding tickets over the last twenty years. I passed a CSIS background check to join the military twelve years ago. I've had multiple criminal records checks in the past twenty years because I've worked with children. I'm a good guy.

So throughout September I began to get to get worried that my license hadn't shown up. I finally contacted them yesterday. The surly bitch I dealt with told me my license was approved on the 16th of October. That is, four months after I sent my paperwork in. It should be in the mail sometime this week, she said.

I asked her what the legality of my not having a license was in the intervening months. She told me an amnesty was granted, and even though I didn't have an up to date card, I was okay.

So, what's the point in having a license at all? If I'd gone to Canadian Tire to pick up a box of 22-250, and the clerk had noticed my license was expired, could I have just explained there was an amnesty? Could I do the same thing if a cop pulled me over the way to the range? If I could, what's the point?

Anyway, keep fighting the good fight.
Has anybody out there tested this whole "amnesty" thing? Do the local police departments know about this?

Here's an interesting juxtaposition...

...Prime Minister Harper speaks up for Jamaican-Canadian community...
“It has come to my attention that since July, many in this community, Toronto’s Jamaican-Canadian community, feel that they live in the shadow of criminality arising out of incidents like the Danzig Street and Eaton Centre shootings,” Mr. Harper told a packed hall at the Jamaican-Canadian Association, in a multicultural suburban neighbourhood in north Toronto.

“Canadians understand that the only community placed under a shadow by perpetrators of these crimes is the community of criminals.”
CBC not so much...
Police in Toronto and Jamaica say gang-related homicides have significantly declined in the 20 months since the arrests of key leaders of the Shower Posse, a violent criminal organization involved in drug and arms trafficking that operates in several countries.

Jamaican officials say a drastic 32 per cent decline in the Caribbean country's homicide rate is largely thanks to a 2010 crackdown on the Shower Posse, considered to be one of the most dangerous gangs in the world.
Some vast rightwing conspiracy that Harper's got going here.

Why I vote Conservative

Reason #114...
"For good or ill, Canada has now chosen to defect from the diplomatic travesty that has obliged ordinary Canadians to put up with Khomeinist thugs in their midst and to abstain from the diplomatic obsequies that require Canadian diplomats to smile when Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khameini’s appointments secretaries spit in their faces."

"Of course it’s not enough. It's merely an act of conscientious objection. But it will have to do for the moment, and in the meantime I reckon I’ll continue to 'disparage diplomacy' of the Heinbecker-Dewar kind, no matter how much it upsets Heinbecker or any of his creepy friends."
When will Peter Mansbridge, Craig Oliver and all the other Liberal cheerleaders ask Prince Justin where he stands on the distinctly undemocratic and oft-barbarous Middle East?

• TORONTO • Almost 800 Toronto cab drivers picked up welfare cheques from the city in the last two years.

A report going to the city’s audit committee next week finds 1,539 people holding business licences from the city — including 759 cabbies, 104 strippers, 170 holistic practitioners and 32 buskerscollected around $20 million in welfare payments while claiming they had zero income between January 2010 and December 2011.

Councillor Denzil Minnan-Wong was quick to pounce on the report Tuesday saying it raises “some really interesting questions.”

“What this is showing is about 800 taxi drivers are reporting zero income and are claiming welfare,” Minnan-Wong said.

The cases are only a fraction of all those on welfare in the city — Toronto Employment and Social Services had 170,000 cases last year and shelled out approximately $915 million in “basic financial assistance.”

rainbows and unicorn fartsAnd remember... if poor little waif Omar touches off a rush hour nail bomb on the Yonge-Bloor subway... it's all on you Canada...
"When the community is accepting, the former child soldier fares well and is less likely to reoffend."

You feelin' safer yet?

'Cos you're sure as shit payin' for it...
It started small in late 2004 when former mayor David Miller was pretty much embarrassed into dealing with the rash of guns and gang violence in the city.

Back then, the city’s Community Safety Plan had a mere 10 staff and less than $600,000 in operating funds attached to it to deal with seven priority neighbourhoods

Nevertheless, it took no time to ascertain that with the Millerites running the show, their plan would be short on tough love and long on feel-good programs.

That quickly became obvious when one of the first public acts of the Community Safety Secretariat was to hold a community safety conference featuring an Australian faith healer chanting a song to remove “barriers” — while drumming loudly to accompany herself.
Hey... it gets better.
There is no longer a Community Safety Secretariat. That appears to have been folded into an entire Community Resources section (of the Social Development, Finance and Administration dept.) with 42 staff and a $6.2 million budget this year.
I got nuthin'.

Just something to remember the next time you hit that voting booth...
-- OTTAWA -- Liberal Leader Bob Rae made the following statement today on the repatriation of Omar Khadr:

“Omar Khadr’s return to Canada is long overdue. Mr. Khadr, a Canadian citizen, was a child soldier. It is extremely unfortunate that it took the Conservative government this long to fulfil its responsibility to bring him back to Canada.
