The video raises significant questions in the wake of reports that the Department of Homeland Security, headed by Janet Napolitano, recently purchased around 2,700 MRAP trucks that many believe are to be deployed to local law enforcement agencies around the country.

It is clear that the DHS does have fleets of armoured vehicles intended for use in the US.

Such stark activity with little to no background detail has prompted several Congressmen to ask the federal government for an explanation.

Here's a wakeup call...

...if everybody you know is getting toasted... maybe it is you...
Toronto’s latest homicide victim is the younger brother of the man fatally shot in the Eaton Centre last year, a homicide detective confirmed Friday, but so far no evidence has emerged to connect the two killings.

Nisan Nirmalendran, 21, died in hospital after he was shot late Thursday at the entrance to a public-housing seniors’ residence on Bleecker Street near Carlton and Sherbourne streets, just west of Cabbagetown.
Looks as though ol' Nisan wasn't exactly a model citizen...
Video footage from the scene shows that when the gunfire erupted at around 11:20 p.m., an elderly resident of the building was going inside. As a plate-glass door panel in the vestibule was blown out, Mr. Nirmalendran, who was known to police, appeared to have been using the woman as a shield as he swivelled, trying to dodge the gunman.
And for all you "crime is down" folks...
The homicide is Toronto’s 13th so far this year, and the sixth gun death. This time last year, the total stood at 10.
Have a nice weekend Toronto.

Jobs for Canadians?

Not in the People's Republic of British Columbia...
•• VANCOUVER •• "A partner in HD Mining was granted permission to bring in nearly 100 temporary foreign workers using documents listing Mandarin as a language requirement, a Freedom of Information Act request has revealed."

"Ninety-five of the LMOs (Labour Market Opinions, a prerequisite required by Service Canada) — to prove the company made sufficient efforts to find Canadians for the jobs — listed Mandarin as the sole language requirement for the positions."

I suppose, strictly speaking, lusting after power IS a Liberal policy...

"'He wants to replace the Tories,' Chretien said during an interview on the Global News program The West Block with Tom Clark."

The leadership hopeful has among the worst records for missing votes and has come under fire for skipping his responsibilities and ignoring his constituents to earn hundreds of thousands of dollars moonlighting as a "professional speaker."

In this session of Parliament, only three MPs have a worse voting record than Trudeau who has missed 221 votes, or about 64%.

"One shot was fired, hitting another vehicle, but no one was injured. Police say they are searching for four black males in their early 20s. They have the licence plate number of the stolen vehicle the suspects were driving and video evidence of the altercation."
Comparison 2...
"Police said all four suspects were black and in their early 20s. They were wearing dark clothing and hoodies and some of them were masked, so witnesses could not get detailed descriptions, Taverner said."
Comparison 3...
"The four suspects, who were partially masked and all hooded, fled the scene in a blue four-door 2006 Toyota, licence plate number ARKC 719. They are described as black males in their early 20s."

Lise Bastien, head of the First Nation Education Council, said she's not surprised no one tried to help Papatie that night.

"Locals said that Papatie was drunk that night like he often was," she said. "It's very sad, but in poor areas, violence is normalized because we have been living it for several generations."

The new nicey, nice journalism

Step one, in all multicultural stories, trot out all the familiar, shopworn cliches...
“The suspect, he was a young guy, nice guy, a popular guy. It’s not something you would EVER expect.”
Or how about...
"You NEVER hear about this kind of thing.”
Eventually, though, you actually have to actually say something factual...
"Kuujjuaq has a disproportionately high crime rate for a town of its size. A total of 640 assaults were recorded in 2012, with 424 of them being alcohol related, according to statistics from the Kativik Regional Police Force."
"Disproportionate", huh? When a journalist uses that word in what is otherwise a politically correct puff piece, that, for me anyway, raises a red flag.

Curious about what that actually meant, I started to Google. Turns out, it isn't what was said that's important. It's what was left out.

Apparently, Kuujjuaq is a village of 2,400 people... which works out, statistically, to every fourth person in the place taking a beating. Bear in mind, we're talking reported assaults... which are always a fraction of actual incidences.

"Something aboard a Frontier Airlines flight across the Rocky Mountain West caught the attention of federal investigators last week. Perhaps it was the passengers banging on the ceiling, walls and floor of the cabin, or maybe how most of the passengers were out of their seats, jumping up and down."

Imagine someone also shouted out a few chants about their flavour of deity. My guess is they would have scrambled F-15s.
