A five-year-long feud over a parking spot has ended with a human-rights victory and $10,000 settlement for a morbidly obese Quebec woman.

Marise Myrand won a favourable ruling from the Quebec Human Rights Tribunal, which said her condo association discriminated against her by denying her a parking spot closer to her building entrance.

She not only won the preferred spot, but all 35 of her neighbours will have to contribute to her $10,000 award.

So... now we're entrenching the human right... to be fat?

Oh, Canada.

The case goes before the Federal Court of Canada next week and if Mr. Saini is successful, the CBSA could be ordered to "un-deport" him -- to bring him back to Canada.

The appeal is based on a 2007 case involving a schizophrenic Jamaican with an extensive criminal record. The CBSA deported him but was forced to fly him back to Canada after a judge ruled that federal officials had inadvertently misled him.

Last fall, the CBSA was similarly forced to return a former Toronto gang member to Toronto three years after he had been deported to Sri Lanka.

Good grief.

Homicide investigators are probing the death of a young man in the city's northwest end. Toronto Police were called to 20 Falstaff Ave., one of three troubled high-rises just off Jane St. and Hwy. 401, about a "suspicious death" at 10:30 p.m. Monday.

A man, believed to be in his early 20s, was found with "obvious signs of trauma," Cotton said. No suspect information was available Tuesday morning.

The case appears to be Toronto's seventh homicide of the year. It came a day after a deadly shooting two kilometres down Jane St.

The hits just keep on rolling.

UPDATE: Latest victim identified

At about 6 p.m. on Monday, 22-year-old Tyrell Duffus said goodbye to his girlfriend, 19-year-old Renee Brown, after the two shared a meal at a Harvey’s restaurant. Within an hour, Duffus got into an argument with someone in the stairwell next to their apartment. A gun was pulled, shots were fired and Duffus was left to die. Not until about 10:30 p.m. were police called.

“He was always a good guy and he didn’t take no harm to nobody,” said Brown, who is due to have Duffus’ baby July 31.

Toronto Police Det. Mike Carbone said the shooting “was certainly a targeted event” and that investigators are “exploring every possibility” in their search for a motive.

Just another bloody day at Jane & Falstaff.

UPDATE: Homicide victim identified

Homicide detectives have released surveillance video from a high-rise at 30 Falstaff Ave. in hopes of identifying two people seen fleeing the building, moments after 22-year-old Tyrell Duffus was shot on Feb. 8.

The video shows two people, both wearing hoodies and baggy jeans, quickly exiting a door at the south stairwell. The first person's hoodie has several distinguishing white stripes on the right shoulder, which may make him more recognizable.

Over to the Falstaff "community."

It all started when the nine-member city council of a conservative Colorado hub asked residents to approve a substantial property-tax increase last fall. They warned of drastic cuts to services if the measure failed, of closed community centres and untended park land, police layoffs and unfilled potholes.

The tax, which would have added $27.6-million to city coffers, was rejected by more than 65 per cent of voters. “We called their bluff,” resident Douglas Bruce says. “They need to downsize. It's a good thing.”

“The government should stick to its traditional municipal role, which is police and fire services, road repair and very little else,” he says. “They're not responsible for entertaining people.”

A 30-year-old Toronto man is dead after gunshots were heard in the Jane St. and Lawrence Ave. W. area around 11 p.m. Sunday.

Glenn Lowe was found with gunshot wounds outside a home in the area and died at the scene, Toronto Police said Monday.

In local news... the body of a missing Belleville area woman has apparently been found. The local radio station is being extremely coy about this one... saying that the story, if confirmed, will rock the Quinte region.

No details are being released but police are apparently setting up a news conference at a local community sports centre.

-- TWEED -- Provincial police crime scene investigators here are combing through the home of CFB Trenton Base Commander Russ Williams in connection with the death and disappearance of Jessica Lloyd.

Lloyd, 27, was found dead Sunday near here, sources said, and police have since arrested a man in connection with her death. His identity has not been released.

Intelligencer reporter Luke Hendry reporting from the scene said Williams' home on Cosy Cove Lane here is cordoned off and police are poring over the residence.

Williams has been base commander at CFB Trenton since July, 2009, and previously flew VIP Challenger aircraft for such dignitaries as Canadian prime ministers and royalty, while stationed in Ottawa.

Wow... sure didn't see that one coming.

Colonel Williams has also been charged with the murder of Marie Comeau of Brighton and two home invasion/rapes in the Tweed area.

Around 1 p.m. Nov. 25, Northumberland OPP were called to a Raglan St. residence. Marie France Comeau, 38, of Brighton was discovered dead. Comeau was a Corporal with 437 Squadron at CFB Trenton.
