I have a friend who is a member of what, these days, is fashionably known as the "working poor". He got downsized from a mid-level managerial position at a major American corporation, lost his house to the bank and had to flee back home to Canada... where he watched his marriage Hindenburg.

How bad is it? Well, his call center McJob pays a shade more than minimum wage, so he just sublet the extra bedroom in his apartment to a co-worker & his girlfriend... because he was tired of choosing between eating & making the rent.

Oh yeah... he recently lost a cap off a front tooth... which he can't afford to fix, so right now he looks like a hillbilly from an old Walker Evans photo.

Less than a year after he asked voters to make him prime minister, Michael Ignatieff is now warning that Quebec and Canada are almost two separate countries, drifting towards a possible breakup.

Ignatieff says he's saddened to see how Canada and Quebec have become isolated, with the optimism of decades past having given way to disillusionment.

His girlfriend, Krystle Magallanes, told CBC News that Lumanglas had kicked a drug addiction and had been trying to turn his life around for herself and their four-month-old son.

Magallanes said her boyfriend “has a big heart” and said he “would never, ever stab a cop."

A bad day to be a lefty

The real reason George Zimmerman wasn't charged...
With a single punch, Trayvon Martin decked the Neighborhood Watch volunteer who eventually shot and killed the unarmed 17-year-old, then Trayvon climbed on top of George Zimmerman and slammed his head into the sidewalk, leaving him bloody and battered, law-enforcement authorities told the Orlando Sentinel.

That is the account Zimmerman gave police, and much of it has been corroborated by witnesses, authorities say.
And one last little item...
And of course, almost no one knows that on the night he took Trayvon Martin’s life, George Zimmerman willingly consented to take a voice stress analyzer test, a kind of lie detector test used by the Sanford police. He passed it.
Apparently President McDreamy & company... (ie. the New Black Panther Party)... jumped the, uh... gun... yet again.

THANK YOU COMMENT MODERATION:

So pardon me for being so direct, Libby... but answer me this... if George Zimmerman, as the actual evidence suggests, is the victim here... will you be issuing a public apology for all your Sharptonesque vitriol?

UPDATE: Who needs courts or trials?

Doesn't George Zimmerman deserve at least as much due process as any other accused?
Trayvon Martin’s parents, who divorced in 1999, left the court stone-faced and with arms locked, declining to answer questions from reporters.

They are devastated” by the bail, family attorney Benjamin Crump told reporters, adding that Tracy Martin had tears in his eyes throughout the hearing.
Not according to some folks, I guess.

Notice the reporter here refers to the "racially charged case."

While the Kenneys — who represented themselves at the hearings — said both their health and property values were affected by the turbines and their noise, the review board rejected their pleas.

MPAC told the review board that proximity to wind turbines is not built into the model the corporation uses to assess properties.
You know that model, right... the one that says (never mind Dalton channeling Al Gore) the government never loses?
The sides had informal talks about a possible settlement during the hearings, Ed Kenney said, but MPAC had insisted that any settlement agreement should have no mention of wind turbines. In the end, no agreement was reached and the case was decided by a two-member review board panel.
Yup... there's a shocker.
John Andrew, real estate professor at Queen’s University’s School of Business, said the decision by the review board isn’t surprising. Putting a value on external factors like wind turbines, a nearby airport, or concentrations of student housing can be tricky, he said in an interview.
