A man wielding a samurai sword and dressed in Medieval-style clothing left at least two people dead and another five injured overnight in Quebec City.

The police did not immediately offer much information about the suspect, other than that he was in his mid-20s and that he was from a suburb of Montreal.

Police are, for whatever reason, refusing to release his name.

UPDATE: When seconds count, the police are...

...only two & a half hours away...

"The rampage began at around 10:30 p.m., when the swordsman stopped his car near the Chateau Frontenac. The violence continued for over two hours as police surrounded the vicinity."

UPDATE2: Murderer's name released

Court documents identify the suspect as Carl Girouard, 24, from Sainte-Thérèse, Quebec. Five years ago, in a medical context, Girouard stated that he "wanted to commit a violent act."

The two victims who lost their lives were François Duchesne, 56, and Suzanne Clermont, 61.
