So much for "victimless crime"

Funny... weren't the Liberals and the NDP just trying to paint Stephen Harper's proposed crackdown on drug dealers... a waste of time?
Const. Christopher John Worden, married father of an eight-month-old girl, was shot to death early Saturday while responding to a routine assistance call near a subsidized housing complex.

Worden was dispatched to the area of The Singles apartment complex at 46 Woodland Dr., which is operated by the Hay River Housing Authority and provides subsidized housing to low-income citizens.

Neighbours said drugs have been a problem in the building. Several said a drug house is rumoured to be located nearby.

UPDATE: RCMP have named a suspect

And, to no ones surprise, it sounds like he's been around the block a few times...
Edmonton -- The 23-year-old man wanted for first-degree murder in the shooting death of a Mountie was arrested in February in an Edmonton drug bust but released on $20,000 bail.

Emrah Bulatci was arrested Feb. 7 with two other men as part of an ongoing investigation by the Edmonton police gang and drug units.
So, lemme see... if someone had been able to crack down on scummy drug dealers before now... this story might have had a different ending.

But that would require a little co-operation from the Fibs and Dippers, wouldn't it?

LAST WORD: No way... drugs make things better
A man was found shot to death in a west-end Toronto apartment that was being used to sell drugs, police say.

An anonymous caller phoned 911 around 11 p.m. Saturday to report the shooting at 200 Woolner Ave., near Jane St. and St. Clair Ave., Staff-Sgt. John Matthews said yesterday.

The man, aged between 30 and 35, was shot in the face, said homicide Det.-Sgt. Steve Ryan. His identity is being withheld until next of kin have been notified.
