Justin Trudeau paid the "Jizya"...

...to keep Jean Chretien and Paul Martin off the witness stand...liberal hypocrisy

“The Harper government refused to repatriate Mr. Khadr or otherwise resolve the matter. They could have, but they didn’t,” Goodale declared.

Except Goodale omitted that in so doing, Harper was merely continuing the policy of the Jean Chretien/Paul Martin Liberal governments from 2002 until they lost power in 2006.

The Liberals made no effort to repatriate Khadr.
And that, my friends, is the truth that "Roaring Ralph" chooses not to tell you...
"Khadr’s civil suit was heavily focused on the unconstitutional conduct of the Liberal government in the 2002-2003 Chrétien-Martin period. Liberal heavyweights and officials from that epoch were included in formulating the Khadr settlement."
Yeah, I'm shocked.

That is one of the most astonishing statements I have ever heard uttered by a cabinet minister.
Despite Liberals whining that their hands were tied, I think they had several options on how to handle Khadr's lawsuit.
One was to fight it every inch of the way.
Another would be for Parliament to be recalled to pass a special settlement Bill. This would meet any SCOC requirements and could include a terse statement just short of an apology. A compensation amount could be set at $10, or $1 per year. Pass that by an all party majority and then let Khadr's lawyers take it or leave it.
The Harper government should have made repatriation conditional on his lawyers dropping any Charter suit. But, I suppose they would have filed one anyway, just as his guilty plea and apology means nothing now as he would have promised, said anything to get out of Gitmo.

bringing this to court would have revealed that jean chretien and paul martin ignored poor little omar's plight until they were actually in opposition.

we can't have that.

Except that Omar Khadr was transferred to Canadian custody in 2012, under a Conservative majority government.

Anon - which was a lot more than the Liberals were prepared to do for this particular little terrorist. Willingly or not, the Conservatives brought the man "home" to his favourite country of convenience.

Stupid Juthtin and the gangster Libranos clearly didn't want a trial where old gangsters like Chretin and Martin would be compelled to testify about their relationship with the terrorist Father of Omar, Libranos went out of their way for that terrorist too. One thing is for sure and thats that Libranos love the terrorist Khadr family. This is hush money as much as it is Jisya rewarding terrorism. Terrorists and Liberals keeping it in the family.

old white guy says.............that we permit the court any say in this matter is a travesty of justice. when unelected judges make law, the country might as well close the doors to parliament and save us the money used to feed and house the leeches that are screwing the place up.

There are no practicing Christians in this government - I thought Chretien ran the most corrupt regime in Canadian history (that hasn't been flushed down the MSM memory hole) - But This Truedough-Butts regime are utterly criminal....and Goodale- oldest whore in the Librano family crime family never uttered a true word.

Cabinet and Parliament retains considerable, even vast powers in this matter, see my post above, just one thing they could consider, a decisive resolution by Parliament and Senate would carry some weight. SCOC never said anything whatever about financial compensation. As Neo and others have pointed out, Liberals do not want any light shone on the action of government and CSIS officials prior to 2006.
There are many ways of dealing with Khadr short of giving him $10 M and hiding behind the SC, hoping Canadians will forget about it.That seems very unlikely and Goodale and Jr should be a little concerned.
