Another reason to vote Conservative
The Harper government is throwing its weight behind a private members' bill that would give police the power to arrest anyone hiding their identity during a riot or unlawful assembly.**********
Justice Minister Rob Nicholson announced Sunday that the Conservative majority formally supports the legislation, meaning it is all but assured of becoming law.
"Destructive and reckless behaviour damages communities and should not be tolerated," Nicholson said in a release.

It's all about control, comrades. There will be a law for everyone to be under some type of control. Everyone. Some folks in this country are simply too stupid to see what is happening.Yeah, commie boy... like your beloved NDP?

Her private member's bill — Healthy Decisions for Healthy Eating — would require restaurants to post calorie counts on menus.

yea,i know,the star...........
You know, there is already a law in the Canadian Criminal Code
351 (2) Every one who, with intent to commit an indictable offence, has his face masked or coloured or is otherwise disguised is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding ten years.
If I am not mistaken, the new private members bill would have a 5 year penalty.
Also it is a criminal offense to take part in a riot. Section 65 of the Canadian Criminal Code.
So we are making redundant laws that carry a lesser penalty.
Great idea and certainly needed.
Next,I wish they would tackle the issue of people throwing Molotov cocktails at police or others during a protest.
In my view, this qualifies as attempted murder and should be dealt with using such force as is needed to stop it immediately.

"zorpheus whinges... So we are making redundant laws that carry a lesser penalty."
so, zorph... now you're complaining that stephen harper isn't being tough enough on criminals?
oh, right... you're the guy who forges comments & tosses out insensitive names like "nancy-boy."
funny how your idea of the ultimate insult is to try impugn somebody's masculinity. how's that one go over down on church street?
*
Sorry about that, the writing in that moment was dreadful. Let correct it.
Honestly Neo, don't you think have redundant laws some what silly?
And if it helps you let the past go Neo, I apologize for using the term Nancy-Boy in reference to you or any of your posters here.

oh, zorph... you think your duplicity & discourtesy has hurt my feelings? i get all kinds of cowardly, anonymous death threats here on a daily basis.
i was merely pointing out that your idea of a terrible insult is apparently to cast aspersions on effeminate men... a core constituency of the lunatic left. make up your mind... are these guys victims, or, as you have demonstrated, targets of derision?
and, if you really feel that way... why apologise to me?
funny though, you chose not to address your spoofing comments under alternate identities... another less than honourable practice.
maybe you better stick to saving the whales.
i have yet to hear of anyone ever being charged under the law you quote... perhaps a clearer statute was needed. you should write to your mp and see what he or she says.

Do you even remember what that initial conservation was about when I initially posted as Anonymous and why I then posted and Anonymouse?
"i have yet to hear of anyone ever being charged under the law you quote... perhaps a clearer statute was needed."
I won't comment on this until I have checked a few legal sources.

of course i remember, zorph... read slower.
i linked to it @11:31 above.

At the risk of getting in the middle of your luvrs quarrel, I was going to say something similar.
I think the existing law is adequate and even tougher so I'm not clear on the purpose of thie private member's bill. It was the focus of the Sun'd editorial today.

"dave says... I think the existing law is adequate"
if it was... why was no one arrested during the recent spate of rioting? has it ever been used against anyone?
this new bill states specifically... "arrest anyone hiding their identity during a riot or unlawful assembly.".
the law loves specificity.
