Don't be standing under any...

...windows at Stornoway...

Ipsos pollster Darrell Bricker said the Liberals would be better advised to hold their fire and give Ignatieff, a former journalist and Harvard academic who returned to Canada to run for Parliament in the 2006 election, more time to build a national profile.

The problem is not that Lurch doesn't already have a profile, it's that he DOES !

I assume you've seen the Harris-Decima poll today that puts the Liberals at 32% to the Conservative 31% (and with twice the polling size)?

Ouch, the whiplash in the OLO must be nasty.

Eric
With the Liberal media all but begging them not to go to an election, I'll trust the Tory 39% story.
Read between the lines.

I'm sorry, I'm only reading the actual data. The HD poll is well within the trend we've seen all summer long. It is extremely unlikely that, considering the data we've seen for weeks and the larger HD poll taken over part of the same period (and even more recently), the Ipsos-Reid numbers would be the accurate ones, especially considering they have historically used a method that is most beneficial to the Conservatives.

eric, that's really nice... the way you had to rush back here a couple of times... to tell us how irrelevant & wrongheaded this poll is.

we appreciate your brotherly concern.

Hey, I browse Blogging Tories, Liblogs, and the NDP one and comment when I see something interesting.

And then, when I comment, I subscribe by e-mail to follow-up comments.

Makes "rushing over here" a breeze.

and eric, don't think for a moment... we all aren't grateful.

It's my pleasure. Just glad to be of some help.

eric... you'll be updating your anonymous drive-by blogger id to include that url?

Not sure why that matters. Care to discuss polls?

"eric says... Not sure why that matters"

of course you don't, eric... because you're special... unlike all those other guys... like, you know... martin.

Just for you, I've changed the settings. The internet's a dangerous place though, you can't blame me for being a little wary. Unlike others, I'm actually using my real name.

How do you get the little picture beside your name? I've only managed to get one on the profile page.

Now, care to discuss polls?

Éric said...

Oh! The picture shows up on new comments only. Neat.

"eric says... the internet's a dangerous place though, you can't blame me for being a little wary."

well, you have a point there... though i would guess most of the yip-yap is impotent bluster.

still... judging from the hostile emails and occasional death threats i receive here... there are some pretty unstable people out there. might be a good idea not to draw those folks a roadmap to your home.

anyway, eric... this particular post is obviously pretty important to you.

what exactly would you like to say about polls?

Actually, I'm more interested to hear what you think consider the Harris-Decima poll that came out today. My site follows every poll that comes out, and I make projections based on that. So one poll is always just one poll, and when you see a poll that is so out of the ordinary, you tend to look at it with suspicion - which in this case was more or less proven with the Harris-Decima poll, which was larger and more within recent trends.

Apparently, even the Conservative Party sent out a memo coaching their MPs to downplay the poll because it wasn't consistent with their own numbers.

Now, you wouldn't be the first blogger to talk only about the good polls, but since you posted about the Ipsos-Reid poll, what is your reaction to the Harris-Decima poll?

"eric trumpets... My site follows every poll that comes out, and I make projections based on that."

well, eric... i have to say i admire your energy & ambition.

heck... if you do all that work for me, i guess i can just sit back & follow your impeccable reasoning, huh?

me... i haven't read the... what was it... harris-decima numbers?

see... i'm just a lowly partisan, having a little fun engaging the public at large.

sounds like this is more of a job to you than anything. i mean, look at your relentless pitbull pursuit of me in this one comment thread.

c'mon eric, honestly... are you having any fun?

*

Éric said...

Come on, I'm not relentlessly pursuing you. I'm receiving emails of your responses, and then I respond. Apparently, you're doing the same thing. I'm not one to leave emails in my inbox unanswered.

I enjoy debating, but I see you don't, or at least aren't interested in this instance. So no, this isn't much fun.

"eric says... So no, this isn't much fun."

eric... not to sound too full of myself... but, as you can see... there is a dedicated cadre of mostly anonymous trolls who pursue my lowly ass on a daily basis. there is very little sport involved... they mostly want to call me names, or threaten me... or pump themselves up.

you sound like a more serious iteration of this.

i mean really... a poll? did you read the post? you don't really think i believe iggy is gonna throw himself out a window over this, do you?

you really wanna (as your 10, count 'em, 10 comments suggest) die on this particular hill?

and yes, i do mostly reply to commenters... it's my blog, remember?

you need a definitive statement here... as far as i'm concerned, there's only one poll that actually matters... the one on election day.

and p.s. - when you said... "My site follows every poll that comes out"... that's the reason i asked about fun.

maybe you should lighten up just a little... let the old bp drop a notch or two?

it works for me.

There's just quite the disconnect which I find amazing to see. Every Blogging Tory and their mother posted about the Ipsos-Reid poll, but virtually none of them mentioned the larger poll that came out the very same day with a very different result.

Am I expecting too much?

Anonymous said...

Expecting too much?
How about assuming too much?
Gotta wonder about those polsters...there's Bricker offering free advice to Iggy, assuming the people he polled hadn't been 'exposed' to Iggy enough...when the media can't get there eyes off of him.
Nanos is always good at telling the libs how to 'get back in power'.
So I'll ignore both polls and the election-mad MSM as well.
Fact...Prime Minister Stephen Harper is leading the country well.
I don't need polls, or MSM to help me figure that out.

"eric says... Every Blogging Tory and their mother posted about the Ipsos-Reid poll"

well sir... again you have the advantage of me... i simply don't read "every blogging tory".

but eric... if that fact actually has your (a serious, sober, scientific guy) knickers in a knot... imagine what joe fiberal sixpack is thinking right now.

i'm just sayin'.
